E.S.M. provided independent electrical design verification and functional safety assessment to support the design registration of a Mine Winder in New South Wales.
Under NSW law, Mine Winder designs must be registered with the NSW Resource Regulator, which requires independent verification against the NSW Technical Reference Guidelines (TRG) for Powered Winding Systems.
Electrical and Control System Design Verification
E.S.M. partnered with the principal mechanical verifier to review the electrical and functional safety aspects of the winder design. This included review against TRG Part 5 for Control Systems and Australian Standards applicable to the electrical design including AS/NZS 3000 and AS 4730.1.
Functional Safety Assessment
The review also included Functional Safety Assessment (FSA) of the winder safety instrumented system against the Analysis, Design and Validation phases of the AS IEC 61508 functional safety lifecycle.
The FSA was performed by E.S.M.’s TÜV certified functional safety engineers.
The FSA scrutinised the design documents and drawings and held the designers accountable for demonstrating that the system achieved the functional safety necessary for the safety risks of the winder application and met or surpassed the safety integrity level (SIL) requirements specified by TRG Part 5.
Delivery to Schedule
Despite a tight timeframe, E.S.M. delivered the verification on schedule, enabling project completion within a limited mine shutdown window.
