E.S.M. recently completed an independent Confirmation Review of Concept Phase activities for an electrified vehicle system for heavy vehicles.

The review was conducted in accordance with ISO 26262, the international standard for functional safety in automotive electrical and electronic systems.

The scope of the review included the Item Definition and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) phases, which are critical early steps in the functional safety lifecycle. These activities define the system’s intended functionality, interfaces, operating environment, and safety goals, and ensure that hazards are systematically identified and mitigated.

The E.S.M. assessment team, led by TÜV certified functional safety engineers, evaluated documentation and architecture for multiple vehicle subsystems, including electric propulsion system and battery energy management.

The review verified compliance with ISO 26262 objectives, focusing on:

  • Traceability and completeness of safety requirements
  • Definition of operating modes and boundaries
  • Systematic hazard identification and ASIL classification
  • Establishment of safety goals for risk reduction

The review determined which ISO 26262 objectives had been met, and where gaps were found, E.S.M. worked collaboratively with the client to support resolution.
