E.S.M. developed a system for safe work on high-voltage rotating plant, which was a new asset type for the client. The system included governance, rules and procedures. E.S.M. delivered a comprehensive manual with accompanying forms and templates.

The system for safe work was designed to be compatible with existing client systems. It included a new paper-based Permit to Work (PTW) process and a new Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) process.

E.S.M. also developed a suite of detailed isolation procedures for the safe isolation of several critical systems and utilised its training capability to develop training materials for the rollout of the new system.

The Permit to Work process works together with the Lock Out Tag Out regime to both physically and administratively ensure that all points of energy isolation are deliberately placed and checked and, using a group lock box, cannot be altered until all workers have exited the work area, signed-off the applicable permit and removed their personal lock from the group lock box.

The work was delivered to a high quality within a tight timescale, to satisfy the client’s operational readiness requirements prior to the handover of the plant.
